Title:Establishing the Search Area
Author(s):Perkins, D; Roberts, P
Date:1998
Abstract:This paper examines the way in which a search area is identified and in particular the role of missing person behaviour distance statistics in the process. It looks at the way in which these statistics have traditionally been presented and considers some problems associated with the use of the median distance and probability zones. It reflects on the work of Syrotuck and shows how expressing distances in percentiles provides the search planner with a useful tool.
