Title:Using Formal Search Theory in a Land Search Environment

Abstract:This is an attempt to demonstrate the relevance of formal search theory to land SAR. It introduces the concept of a region and explains how its use can simplify POA calculations. The paper includes a discussion of Critical Separation, sweep width and POD. It shows how search theory might be applied to land SAR by means of examples.
